You have a choice on where to get your MRI, and getting a referral to a Shields location is as easy as telling your doctor. Request that your imaging take place at the Shields facility of your choice, and your doctor can complete a referral form and fax or email it to Shields directly.
It’s important to know that your doctor must obtain “authorization” from your insurance company for your MRI before your appointment. This authorization confirms that the MRI is needed and typically takes about 24 hours to obtain. It must be in place before your exam and is requested by your referring doctor. Shields will notify you if this insurance plan authorization is not in place and can advise you on how to request it with your doctor.
