SROC Mansfield

Marks second year of operation.

Shields Radiation Oncology Center would like to announce the second year of operation at 89 Forbes Blvd in Mansfield. Shields Radiation Oncology Center is a joint venture partnership with Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton and Shields Health Care Group, the state’s largest provider of medical imaging services.

Over the past two years the center has offered the latest state of the art technologies including four-dimensional CT simulation, image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and respiratory gating – three highly advanced forms of cancer treatment rarely offered in a suburban setting.

This past year, Shields Radiation Oncology Center was honored to receive accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). This prestigious accreditation is held by a select few radiation oncology centers within Massachusetts and is a true indicator of the advanced level of care offered. Patients take great comfort in knowing that the supervisory body for radiation oncology included this center among the countries most highly regarded.

Growth of the center over the past two years has included an expansion of the prostate cancer brachytherapy seed program at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and a new prostate program at Morton Hospital and Medical Center in Taunton utilizing live intraoperative treatment planning.

The center is also now offering Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI) with Axxent – Xoft electronic brachytherapy technology. This treatment is for eligible early stage breast cancer patients and can reduce treatment durations from 7 weeks – once per day, down to 1 week – twice per day. Endometrial cancer patients are also eligible for reduced treatment times with the electronic brachytherapy technology.

“It is reassuring and exciting to share in delivering the latest advances in radiation oncology in a community setting,” said Dr. H. Joseph Barthold, Medical Director of the Shields Oncology Centers.  “Our goal is to make the lives of our patients and their families easier by providing their care closer to home with the advantage of compassionate staff and the most effective treatments available.”

At Shields Oncology, we have invested in several of the latest, state-of-the-art technologies for treating cancer very successfully with minimally invasive techniques, affording greater hope with less trauma.  Our location makes it easily accessible to the patient’s of southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
