Hyannis, Mass. – Cape Cod Healthcare and Shields Health ushered in a new era of local healthcare with the delivery of the GE SIGNA Voyager, a cutting-edge, AI-enabled MRI system, to Cape Cod Hospital on Wednesday, May 28. Weighing approximately 11,000 pounds, the machine was delivered by crane.
The GE SIGNA Voyager, poised to begin scanning patients in early July, offers groundbreaking advantages. By reducing scan times by up to 60% and delivering extraordinarily clear imaging, this advanced MRI system enhances the patient experience, especially for individuals with claustrophobia or chronic pain.
“This is an exciting milestone for our hospital and the community,” said Mike Lauf, President of Cape Cod Healthcare. “Bringing this state-of-the-art, AI-powered MRI system to Cape Cod Hospital is a testament to our commitment to providing access to cutting-edge technology and the very best care, right here on Cape Cod. AI-enabled MRI systems like the Voyager represent the future of diagnostic care, offering unprecedented speed and clarity for both patients and providers.”
The arrival of the Voyager marks a key addition to an expanding fleet of advanced imaging technologies brought to Cape Cod through the longstanding collaboration between Cape Cod Healthcare and Shields Health. Two AI-powered MRI systems are already in place at Cape Cod Health outpatient facilities, but this latest addition is the first to be located directly at a hospital site. Shields and Cape Cod Healthcare plan to round out their AI offerings this fall with an upgrade to MRI technology at Falmouth Hospital.
“This new MRI is a vital step in redefining access to high-quality, advanced imaging on Cape Cod,” said Peter Ferrari, President of Shields Health. “AI technology has dramatically enhanced the way we perform MRI scans, enabling quicker, more accurate results. Our partnership with Cape Cod Healthcare enables us to continue bringing this groundbreaking innovation to the community, ensuring patients can receive world-class care without leaving the Cape.”
The collaborative efforts of Cape Cod Healthcare and Shields Health reflect a shared mission of empowering local healthcare with innovative technology, improving outcomes, and enhancing the patient experience at every level.
