Shields Health and UMass Memorial Health – Harrington Announce New Partnership for Advanced MRI and PET/CT Imaging Services

Southbridge, MA (April 2024) – Shields Health and UMass Memorial Health – Harrington proudly announce a new partnership to provide state-of-the-art PET/CT and MRI imaging technologies, increasing access to advanced radiological care for residents of south-central Massachusetts and beyond.

Equipped with Siemens’ cutting-edge 20-slice PET/CT system, patients and the referring community will see an upgrade from the previous technology available at Harrington.

Top benefits of this new system include faster and sharper images, enhanced detail to better detect masses and small lesions, consistent image quality across the patient population regardless of size and weight, high detail imaging needed for better understanding of disease progression and access to specialty imaging for amyloid, prostate and more.

PET/CT services are available on Fridays at Harrington Hospital, 100 South Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.

Additionally, the partnership ensures the continued delivery of MRI services at Harrington’s locations in Southbridge and Charlton. Both centers are equipped with powerful 1.5T MRI machines, providing patients and providers with the precise images for accurate diagnoses. The Southbridge location at Harrington Hospital’s main campus also offers an Open-Bore MRI option, featuring a 70 cm opening that helps alleviate claustrophobia, while maintaining superior image quality.

MRI services are available on Mondays, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Harrington Hospital 100 South Street, Southbridge, MA 01550 and Harrington Healthcare at Charlton, 10 N Main Street, Charlton, MA 01507.

“Bringing state-of-the-art technology to our local patients is incredibly fulfilling and an ongoing priority for our organization,” said Ed Moore, President of UMass Memorial Health – Harrington. “Through this joint venture with Shields, we are able to offer affordable and precise imaging solutions, ensuring effective treatment for the community. We are excited about the possibilities ahead for our partnership and the opportunities to improve patient care.”

This collaboration marks the third PET/CT partnership and the third MRI partnership for Shields Health and UMass Memorial Health, having similar ventures in Worcester, Marlborough, Fitchburg, and Leominster through UMass Memorial Medical Center, UMass Memorial Health – Marlborough Hospital and UMass Memorial Health – HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital.
