A Variety of MRI Choices.
Effective January 1, 2013, the partnership between Shields Health Care Group and Lowell General Hospital has expanded to include MRI services located at Lowell General Hospital’s Saints Campus. The Saints Campus, located in Lowell, is a 157-bed licensed medical center with nearly 400 affiliated physicians and 1,200 employees. The addition of the Saints Campus to the Shields/LGH network will broaden access to our loyal patients and physicians of the Merrimack Valley and provide exceptional imaging through the use of a GE 3T HDX 8 channel MRI.
The new 3T technology is the most advanced MRI scanner available for clinical use today and provides patients and physicians with the finest level of detail and clear, vivid images for better patient diagnoses and outcomes. The technology is twice as powerful as the standard 1.5T scanner and is ideal for neurological, musculoskeletal, vascular and breast imaging.
Since 2012, Lowell General Hospital and Shields have partnered to provide MRI services to patients at the Lowell General Hospital Main Campus and at an outpatient facility in North Chelmsford. Now, having three locations with three unique MRI machines, Shields is able to offer a variety of MRI choices to suite every patients needs. All three options will provide high-quality imaging at an affordable price for patients.
- 1.5T High-field — Shields MRI at Lowell General Chelmsford
- 10 Research Place, Chelmsford, MA
- Monday – Friday: 6:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., Saturday: 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Sunday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Ideal for scanning extremities. The high-field strength guarantees a clear image, while the location offers a comfortable and convenient outpatient setting.
- 1.5T High-field ‘open-bore’ — Shields MRI at Lowell General Hospital Main Campus
- 295 Varnum Ave, Lowell, MA
- Seven days per week: 6:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
- Ideal for accommodating claustrophobic and/or extra-large patients. This wide, open-bore MRI scanner provides over one foot of head room and a shorter machine length for maximum comfort. In addition, the size of this bore also allows for better body positioning during scans meaning more patient comfort and better image outcomes.

- Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Ideal for small bones, dense tissue, and more

The new location at the Saints Campus with Lowell General Hospital is one of five new locations Shields Health Care Group has opened in Massachusetts within the past year.
