SOUTH SHORE INSIDER: Tom Shields Jr. takes on presidency of family business

The Patriot Ledger

On July 1, Tom Shields Jr., 44, took on his new role as president of the Quincy-based Shields Health Care Group, replacing his brother Jack after he stepped down to start an investment firm.

The company – which offers MRI, CT and PET-CT imaging and radiation therapy – was originally founded by Shields’ father Tom and mother Mary in 1972. Since then, the family business has expanded to 21 MRI centers, six PET-CT centers and three radiation therapy centers, and has 750 employees.

Shields, 44, a Norwell resident, joined the family business in 1995 after working on several congressional campaigns. He first handled the company’s real estate interests, then went into sales management. From 2001 through this year, he served as Shields Health Care’s executive vice president of marketing and administration.
