John Pan, M.D.

John J. Pan, MD, MPH, MBA, is Chief Medical Officer of Shields Health. A board-certified radiologist specializing in musculoskeletal imaging and interventions, Dr. Pan provides clinical leadership across the organization with a focus on quality, physician partnership, clinical operations, and the continued advancement of Shields’ imaging services.

Dr. Pan has built his career in some of the region’s most advanced academic and healthcare settings, with clinical and leadership experience spanning Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and South Shore Hospital. He served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and held several clinical leadership roles at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, including Director of Musculoskeletal and Spine Interventions and Director of the Musculoskeletal Imaging and Interventions Fellowship. Most recently, he served as Assistant Professor of Radiology at Boston University School of Medicine, a radiologist at Boston Medical Center, and Director of Business Development for Boston University Radiological Associates.

Dr. Pan’s experience also includes healthcare strategy, business development, and medical affairs. He worked at McKinsey & Company, where he was a leader in the Healthcare and Strategy practices.  In this role, he advised senior leaders at many of the most prestigious health systems in America.  Subsequently, he served as Senior Director of Global Strategy at Novartis, achieving significant growth across all business units. His work has included strategic planning, physician practice growth, clinical operations, acquisitions, and healthcare partnerships.

Dr. Pan earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, his Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, and his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his radiology residency at Yale New Haven Health and his fellowship in Musculoskeletal Imaging and Interventions at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.
