WHROC receives prestigious accreditation from American College of Radiology.
Winchester Hospital’s commitment to exceptional patient care in radiation oncology has been recognized with a prestigious accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). This designation is held by only six other radiation oncology facilities in Massachusetts.
“We are proud that the high standard of care we administer has been recognized, confirmed and supported by the ACR,” said Dr. Richard Heidbreder, director of the Winchester Hospital Radiation Oncology Center.
Since welcoming its first patient on April 23, 2007, the Winchester Hospital Radiation Oncology Center has treated about 300 people, allowing cancer patients in the community to receive high-quality, comprehensive treatment close to home. Located at 620 Washington Street in Winchester, the Winchester Hospital Radiation Oncology Center is a joint venture partnership with Shields Health Care Group which delivers full-service cancer treatment to Winchester Hospital’s patients. The Winchester Hospital Radiation Oncology Center features 4 Dimensional CT Simulation, Image Guided Radiation Technology (IGRT) and Respiratory Gating – three highly advanced forms of cancer treatment offered in very few centers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
In the coming months, Winchester Hospital’s full spectrum of cancer services, which are currently delivered at several locations throughout its service area, are expected to be housed at the 620 Washington Street site, including state-of-the-art equipment and resources. Patients will visit one location for treatment planning, laboratory services, chemotherapy and support services, all designed to maximize patient privacy, comfort and convenience.
