Shields Wins Top Connected Award

For the second consecutive year, Shields wins national award.

Health Imaging & IT magazine has, for the second consecutive year, named Shields Health Care Group one of the Top 25 Connected facilities in the country.

This award recognizes Shields for its demonstrated continued commitment to imaging connectivity. Patricia Whelan Downey, Shields’ Chief Information Officer, believes “High-tech imaging and connectivity go hand-in-hand. Maintaining a constant flow of communication is crucial to every service business. Our referring physicians rely on our technology solutions and support to be the most advanced in our field as obtaining the radiology result, in many cases, is the first stop in the care process. Shields has always been a leader in providing technologically advanced solutions and is honored to be recognized with this accolade for a second time.”

The industry magazine cited Shields for its recent release of an iPhone/iPad application that allows referring physicians to view reports and images upon their apple device, from any location providing flexibility and access like never before. Physicians can search for their patients to find live status information or review Shields radiologist reports with the tap of a finger, enabling physicians to stay connected from home, the office, the ER or the patient bedside.

Tom Shields Jr., President of Shields Health Care Group commented on the innovative application. “This is something that Shields felt was in high-demand in today’s imaging industry. When it comes to diagnostic testing, there is nothing more important than getting accurate results, fast, and Shields understands this. Providing this latest technology, we are able to increase productivity for physicians and ultimately help improve patient care.”

Whelan-Downey reported that there are plans in place to continue to evolve and update the application. “With the next planned release for fall 2011, the application will enable exam ordering and direct face time with Shields radiologists, something that physicians supremely value. Also planned is the launch of a patient version, where patients will be able to view their reports and images from their apple device. There is great opportunity for future advancements and growth as the use of mobile devices, along with security solutions, expand.”
