You have a choice on where to get your MRI, and getting a referral to a Shields location is as easy as telling your doctor. Request that your imaging or radiation treatment take place at the Shields facility of your choice, and your doctor can complete a referral form and fax or email it to Shields directly.
It’s important to know that your doctor must obtain “authorization” from your insurance company for your MRI before your appointment. This authorization confirms that the MRI is needed and typically takes about 24 hours to obtain. It must be in place before your exam and is requested by your referring doctor. Shields will notify you if this insurance plan authorization is not in place and can advise you on how to request it with your doctor.
NEW telehealth orders: We’ve adjusted our standard scheduling to allow for the new telemedicine orders that are being placed. This new workflow is simple: Just email the order and clinical notes to the Shields email below, and we’ll take care of the order.
- SHCfirstname.lastname@example.org: For telemedicine MRI or PET/CT orders, simply send the order and clinical notes as an attachment to this email address.
