Dr. Daniel Han

Patients living in the Mansfield area now have increased options for advanced cancer care closer to home. Shields Health Care Group is pleased to announce the benefit of new services and expertise with the addition of Daniel C. Han, M.D to the Shields Radiation Oncology Center in Mansfield. Dr. Han joins the caring team of expert physicians at the Mansfield location, who are treating patients with state-of-the-art technology and highly specialized clinical care.

Dr. Han is a board-certified and fellowship trained radiation oncologist with more than 10 years of experience treating breast, prostate, lung, gastrointestinal (rectal, esophagus, gastric), head and neck and other types of cancers. He has several published articles and papers related to advances in treating cancer and his background in clinical medicine and research will add tremendous value and expertise to the team of physicians at the Shields Radiation Oncology Center – Mansfield.

“Cancer treatment is rapidly changing” notes Dr. Han. “Patients have increasingly more options and reason for hope and I am pleased to be a part of an organization that offers the highest levels of technology combined with great emphasis on compassionate delivery.”

At the Mansfield Center, Dr. Han will be using Electronic Brachytherapy by Xoft, an innovative new technology that uses partial breast irradiation to treat patients with breast cancer. Compared to conventional radiation therapy, patient treatment time is reduced from six to seven weeks, to just one, and the Mansfield center is one of the only locations in the region to offer patients this new technology.

Specifically for patients with prostate cancer, Dr. Han and the oncology team will provide brachytherapy or “seed” implementation, an advanced procedure used to effectively attack prostate cancer by carefully placing radioactive seeds inside the prostate. Additionally, patients with prostate cancer can be treated with Intensity Guided Radiation Therapy or IGRT, an extremely precise treatment used to effective target cancer cells within the prostate.

Dr. Bruce Bornstein, Medical Director of Shields Oncology Services, welcomes Dr. Han’s experience at the Mansfield center. “We look for Radiation Oncologists that, in addition to embracing clinical challenges, have strong communication and interpersonal skills,” says Dr. Bornstein. “Providing advanced cancer care is more than just the best technology and clinical expertise – its also educating patients regarding their treatment options. Moreover, excellent communication skills are important to effectively coordinate care with our colleagues, allowing our patients the convenience of being treated closer to home.”

Prior to joining Shields, Dr. Han was Director of Radiation Oncology at Morgan Hospital and Health System in Martinsville, Indiana. Dr. Han graduated from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia and completed a residency at the Medical College of Virginia and a clinical fellowship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Dr. Han is board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation. He also has professional affiliations with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and the American College of Radiation Oncology.
